POPTEEN Japan has released it’s September 2009 issue. Personally, I really need to see a new face on the cover. As with most Japanese magazines, the cover model always seems to be the same. This wouldn’t be too bad, but often the expression and pose are similar with each issue too. The month’s cover is an extreme closeup which does look nice, but unlike EGG which went with a different model than usual, Popteen stuck with it’s main face. As also with Egg, Popteen elected to have a Yellow based cover which is nice. There are sunflowers bordering the cover and some of the text is in orange to offset the extreme yellow.
There is an INCREDIBLE “Pop Model” Makeup Section inside that is really really good. It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen and Gals will definitely love this month’s issue for that insert alone. Indeed also POP SISTER will be releasing a second issue on 8/17. I’ll be uploading the insert pages after I post this. There is no cover shot as it probably was still in production at the time the Popteen September issue was printing, but nonetheless, it looks like a second attempt with Pop Sister is here. All in all, this is a good issue of Popteen. It’s jam packed with street photos so guys and gals will definitely be able to see what’s happening on the streets of Shibuya 109, Tokyo Japan! Happy Summer Everyone!
Hi everyone! The new EGG Japan September 2009 issue is hot off the press and on newsstands everywhere in Japan. This morning I just picked up the new issue and it’s actually quite good. The cover uses yellow, orange, and sky blue colors which gives it a very summery sort of appeal. The cover model is also a welcome change and overall, I think EGG pulled off a nice fresh look for this end of summer issue. I say end because next month will be the October issue and I’m sure the colors, model, and overall look will be geared towards the new Fall fashion trends and looks. The hair style on the cover reminds me a tiny bit of the Farrah Fawcett look from the 70’s. Hair coloring blends, extensions, and a longer curly lengths seem to be the trend lately similar to the Ageha look. Inside there are a lot of great photos and articles. Egg is still a bit thin compared to the competition, but the covers certainly have that retro Gal look that I like very much. This issue will no doubt be a HOT one in Japan!
I say “Cover Clutter” because the AGEHA Japan September 2009 issue proves once again that you have to get as much text jammed onto that front cover as possible. It literally makes me dizzy looking at this month’s cover as the headlines spiral towards the center. The model is good but unfortunately she is small and secondary to the text. There is also a pink Hello Kitty with a heart shaped eye patch in the upper right hand corner. Is it just me or does the cover give a tad feel of S&M or something. The hat gives it a way for me not that I’m an expert on S&M…laugh. With the eye patch, sharp nails, and hat, this cover like last month looks rough and tough with a pinch of princess.

Here is the cover shot of the September 2009 issue of JELLY Japan. The cover amazingly does stand out on the magazine stand in the convenience stores, but once you take a closer look it becomes a bit distracting to me. There is also a HUGE difference now with this magazine and that of Ranzuki which sit right next to each other in the stores. I think there is a “rich” sense to the cover as it looks like “gold” and this may attract more gals to look and purchase the magazine here. The tones and colors are similar to Happie Nuts this month and I notice both magazine do fight each other for exposure. Lately though, I find JELLY Japan to be expanding and doing a nice job with their content. I’d definitely pick up this months issue and check it out. Attached is the cover shot. Enjoy!
Happie Nuts Japan has released their Summer Trend Special issue for September 2009. The cover is pretty good but I’m looking forward to Happie Nuts spotlighting other gals in the near future. This I notice is a trend happening lately with Japanese Gal magazines. Once they find a popular gal, they tend to run with her on almost every cover. I know why they do this because it does attract and influence Japanese gals to buy the magazine. However, there are A LOT of nice fashion gals available for cover shoots and I think these magazines should take more risks. In a bad economy though, perhaps that is not such a good idea for conservative based management. Nonetheless, Happie Nuts has a nice issue on their hands this month and it’s worth checking out. I also think Happie Nuts and Jelly are finding it hard to differentiate themselves. They are both released on the same day and they both have the same style of cover. Although many gals may understand the differences, at first glance I generally think they are more similar than different. Just my thoughts. Attached is the Cover, Back, and table of contents for the September 2009 issue of Happie Nuts Japan. I like the Back Jerry Girl ad which is cool too. Enjoy!
